| 12/09/2004 | Order/Procedural | Filed Order. On October 25, 2004, appellant City of Las Vegas filed in the district court a motion for a stay of the district court's order pending appeal. Respondent Boyd Katz opposed the motion. Our review of the district court's minute entry for the November 1, 2004, hearing, indicates that the district court denied the motion on its merits, stating the reasons for its decision, and that the district court reminded the City that it could seek a stay from this court. fn1[We note that the district court apparently has not yet entered a written order denying the motion.] On November 2, 2004, this court received a letter from counsel for the City with copies of, among other things, the motion for a stay that had been filed in the district court. On November 5, 2004, this court received a letter from counsel for Katz with a copy of the opposition to the motion for a stay that Katz had filed in district court. The City and Katz have informally submitted their filings from district court to this court for its review and consideration. A request for relief from this court must be presented in a formal motion, not through an informal letter addressed to the clerk. Additionally, a formal request for relief from this court should be specifically directed to this court; simply submitting documents that were filed in district court is not sufficient.
